I just bought a house that has dark, flat gray paint and brown carpet in every room. We peeled back the carpet to find that most of the rooms have wood floors in decent condition that have been painted ebony black.
The living room has a large picture window, but is overall a dim room with little natural light because there is a deck with a deep overhang that shades the window and also a big tree right outside.
This is a small Midwestern 1950s ranch with low ceilings and small rooms, although the living room is a decent size with some great built in shelves at one end (currently white).
We picked out kind a soft, butter colored paint (Vanilla Ice Cream) for the living room, hoping it would make it warmer and brighter. I do not like cold whites. However, with these black floors now I don't know... When I Google image search black floors, most pictures have starker whites paired with them and I'm feeling a little insecure about our color choice!
