The MLS is unlike pretty much any league in the world in terms of how teams are able to build rosters. Obviously, teams with rich owners can't just stockpile players and build B-teams capable of placing mid-table all on their own.
Is there actually space next season for bringing on the level of ball-handing and distribution required to actually properly utilize Suarez, or is this going to be another season of Jekyll and Hyde in terms of gameplay when one of Messi, Sergio, or Alba is not playing?
Suarez is still a great player when looking at Brazilian Serie A or MLS level defenses (pretty on par with how bad they are), but my concern is that without dominance in the final third re:possession, he's a pure luxury player even notwithstanding the 50% of games he's likely to miss to keep the remaining cartilege in his knees from turning to complete dust. I'm not even worried that much about the defense - with Messi and a decently healthy Suarez, even on limited minutes, you can overcome bad defense. A team with Messi, which defends with 10, isn't the kind of team to grid out 1-0 wins anyway. I expect shootouts.
Who is even on the radar for replacing dudes like Gomez? The midfield is a mess and has zero depth. Can anyone provide a decent summary of the team's cap situation, and what room they have next year to actually build a squad that complements the (pre-owned) Ferrari's on the team?
Edit: Typo in the title, I know
