Hello. I currently have progressive insurance (I have had them for years) and my current bf of almost 3 years just got off his insurance because he didn't need it for the work he does. He doesn't even need a vehicle. We have 1 car that I alone drive. We are on the lease together for our apartment and progressive is saying my insurance will be canceled unless he is added to the plan. How is it they can do that? They say everyone that's living with me has to be on my insurance or have their own insurance? What if my roommate didn't have a license? Since when is it a requirement to be on someone's car insurance? That would mean if I had a roommate that was on my lease and didn't work or even leave the house, then I would have to pay for them to be on my insurance for my own vehicle? I'm very confused and any help would be great. My bf and I separate finances because we don't see a point since we're not married, makes things easier. So why am I being forced to put someone on a policy JUST because they live with me?
EDIT: Thank you everyone for the guidance. I called an underwriting agent and had them just add him and verify that no cancellation would occur. Ironically our premium didn't increase a penny. I literally was worried about absolutely nothing. 🤣 I truly appreciate you're help!
