We have a 500 sq ft attic that we're preparing for blown in cellulose. We do not store up there, and aside from checking on things with rarely, if ever enter.
There are currently some center floor boards I have not pulled up yet. The home is old, and the boards were heavily and haphazardly nailed, so not only are they a chore to pull up, but they leave a lot of scars in the joists. There's currently some very old loose fill fiberglass under there which could be vacuumed out fairly easily.
My question: is it ok to vacuum out the fiberglass, and then temporarily put a block on one side of the boards and blow in under them to a sufficiently packed depth, and then continue over them to the full depth, or by doing this am I significantly hurting the performance of the insulation?
We will mark the walkway with a bright string boundary so future enterers understand the path (we're also marking electric runs with taller utility flags).
If it really is important to pull up all the old boards we will do this, but it will continue to balloon an already over-time-budget project, so if the impact is 5% or less, in other words minimal, we would prefer to just blow under and over!
Thanks again for any feedback! :)
