Any kind of barrier over lathe & plaster attic floor before insulating?
Post Body

We are currently preparing our 1925 balloon framed home to add blown in cellulose in the attic. We’re in the process of fire stopping, putting up baffles, sealing off some closet chases and a few other things.

We know with the construction of this type that, aside from spray foam, nothing is truly going to seal it off completely, but we’re trying to do the best we can given the parameters we have to work within.

I was wondering, given the age and the fact that some of the plaster is cracking or disintegrating, is there any kind of barrier we should lay down on the lathe itself before insulating? I’m not thinking so much about a moisture barrier, as I understand these are often not recommended on attic floors in cold climates, but really more just about air permeability in general. Would laying something like visqueen or some other kind of material be recommended for any reason?
