Asking customers for ratings

Has anyone had any success asking customers for ratings? I feel like most of my customers don't rate whether I ask or not...currently at 4.77 with a bunch of BS 'item issues' and no real complaints from customers. Non IC shoppers keep suggesting asking for ratings but I don't see it as that simple....any ideas?
