GPS Action Remote with Prerecord function

So just got the remote specifically to be able to start and stop recording and not miss the action that happens just prior to hitting the remote record button.
It seems like I have to keep restarting prerecord every time I hit the remote. Is there a way to keep the prerecord active?
Otherwise I’m only getting one shot with it then I need to go back to the camera to reactivate it. If I wanted to go back to the camera each time I wouldn’t have gotten the remote.
