What’s a good union or trade to get into?

I’m 25 and I want to get my shit together but I don’t know how to start or where to go. I’m tired of working warehouse and customer service jobs.
I was thinking of something like heavy equipment operator but I don’t know any good apprenticeship programs. Do I need to friend someone that’s already in and hope they refer me?
I have a school debt already so I would prefer not to add any more debt already.
