How do I draw straight and curve lines instead of connecting the dots to fill in shapes using the bezier tool?

I used trace bitmap tool and now I have to finish by manually tracing the rest. But I ran into a problem. When I clicked the bezier tool it forces me to connect the lines with the dots until a shape is filled in. I don't want this to happen. I just want the drawn lines to appear in black as I keep working.
I'm a beginner in need of your guidance.
