It is interesting to note that there is no Eastern China category probably because Eastern China is the ethnic Han people's homeland, and they have dominated that land since antiquity, even with foreign invaders that ruled over China. And yes, those once-foreign invaders include the Manchus. So, somehow, the Manchus are indigenous but the Han people are not.
Also, it is interesting to note that the Kinh people of Vietnam, while indigenous to the soil there, are NOT considered indigenous probably because they make up the majority of the population.
So, as long as you make up the majority of the population, you are automatically NOT indigenous, even if you have long dominated the territory and your people originate from the territory.
And if you belong to the Hausa people of Nigeria, largest ethnicity there, then you are considered indigenous. What gives?
