Seeing the post by /u/TikiKat4 inspired me to write these reviews before the collection isn’t available anymore. Hopefully, these reviews will help some people! I originally had the reviews for the ghosts and goblins together, but it was really long, so I split it into two. Here are the goblins!
When I’m reading reviews from other people, it helps me when I know what someone else likes. So, for me, some of my favorite mainstream fragrances include: Bath and Body Work's Brown Sugar & Fig, Vanilla Bean Noel, and Winter Candy Apple and, for more expensive perfumes, Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent, Acqua di Gioia by Armani Beauty, and Romance and Beyond Romance by Ralph Lauren. From Alkemia, I realized that I absolutely adore Ghost Fire. From Cocoa Pink, I love Grapefruit Sugar and Tihota. I also enjoy forest scents, but avoid a lot of traditional florals.
My rating system is generally:
1 – This was so awful for me I washed it off. I would not recommend it to anyone else.
2 – This isn't for me, but I can see how someone would appreciate it.
3 – This is ok. I use this a lot for perfumes that I think other people would really like or that I think would be popular with people who have different tastes from me.
4 – I’ll probably use all of the sample for this and possibly buy another, or even full size it.
5 – I am planning to buy a full size of this or already have and I will use it regularly.
Coffee Goblin
Description:
rich coffee drizzled with ribbons of caramel and sprinkled with an extra dash of cinnamon, a crackling fireplace, marshmallow, sweet pumpkin flesh enrobed in warm pumpkin spice
My thoughts:
This might become my default autumn scent. It’s a lovely balance between all the scents, with an undercurrent of wood scent. None of the spices overwhelm the perfume, which has happened to me before. It’s a slightly sweet, cozy, and comforting scent. I don’t know if I’d wear it other than autumn and maybe winter, but I like it a lot. I’m actually able to notice a pumpkin scent when I initially apply this. And a bit of caramel. A lot of the goblin scents have other notes that overpower the pumpkin. Also, my skin chemistry really seems to amplify some spices in some perfumes, like clove, so I’m realizing that I might prefer autumn scents without them. I think I do notice cinnamon in this, but it’s not overpowering and it isn’t irritating my skin. This is a gentle, cozy scent. It definitely feels like autumn, but it’s not obnoxious about it.
Rating: 4/5
Because this pumpkin scent doesn’t overwhelm me with spices
Who is this?
The calm, quiet girl always reading in the corner of the coffee shop
Desert Goblin
Description:
wildcrafted pinyon pine essential oil, hot desert sands, marshmallow, sweet pumpkin flesh enrobed in warm pumpkin spice
My thoughts:
This is an evergreen scent. There is nothing desert about this. I am a little biased against this scent right now and need to try it again. I wore it on a rainy day, thinking it would be fun to wear a desert scent in the rain. However, I was completely surprised that the initial scent is intense pine. I was so caught off guard that I washed it off before I had a chance to smell the dry down. I’ll probably try it again, but I’m overwhelmed by how wrong the name feels.
Rating: 2/5
Because the name is a lie
Who is this?
Someone who escaped from the desert and now lives in the depths of a pine forest
Introvert Goblin
Description:
chai tea with extra cardamom, a cozy stack of old books, marshmallow, sweet pumpkin flesh enrobed in warm pumpkin spice
My thoughts:
Immediately, I can smell the spices, and probably clove or allspice. This type of note seems to dominate on me, which is just disappointing because there’s no balance. The initial scent of this is like chai tea, just heavy on the spices on me. The scent itself is not overpowering, though, just not balanced. Like some of the other goblin scents, I don’t notice the pumpkin note here. Or the marshmallow note. However, all this might be because this is just a spicy chai tea to me. As it dries down, I think I notice some of the ‘old books’ scent, but it’s still mostly just spices for me. However, if someone really liked the scent of chai tea, I would recommend this to them.
Rating: 3/5
Because I don’t want to be dipped in cloves and allspice
Who is this?
A friend who makes chai the old-fashioned way
Toxic Goblin
Description:
the shriek of mandrake root (which has an apple-like aroma), deadly datura flower, cyanide, marshmallow, sweet pumpkin flesh enrobed in warm pumpkin spice
My thoughts:
The initial scent of this is apples and flowers. Based on the notes, it’s probably the mandrake root and datura flower. It’s lovely and is on the safe side of the line for me where gourmand and flowers become too much together. As it dries down, I do notice a note that I would consider ‘toxic’. Something about it seems, almost unpleasant. It is probably the cyanide note since it doesn’t seem to be pumpkins or spice. It’s also not like the scent of almonds. I would imagine it as the scent of a toxic mushroom in a fantasy novel though. This seems to be the scent that remains as it dries, which is interesting. I prefer the apples and flowers scent, but this scent intrigues me. I keep smelling it to try to understand it. In the end though, I can’t seem to think of a time when I would reach for this perfume instead of something else.
Rating: 3/5
Because this would be perfect for when you’re feeling a little evil
Who is this?
