Hi, IMAM! I'm Cassie and I'm the owner of Bygone Apothecary, I make a variety of bath and body products with scents inspired by historical figures and events. I offer lotions, cuticle oils, shower steamers, milk bath, body wash, and bar soaps to name a few products.
Wet Skin Moisturizer - a customer favorite!
A little about me:
I'm a mom of 2 toddlers in the PNW, and I got back into soap making a few years ago because I absolutely fell in love after watching a lifetime's worth of soapmaking videos. I had made melt and pour soap when I was younger, but hadn't done it in years and the chemistry of making cold process soap was so intriguing to me. Pretty soon, our apartment kitchen or basement utility room was constantly overtaken by my soaping supplies, and my husband has been kind enough to indulge my obsession (not that he had much of a choice, soap and I are kind of a package deal now.)
I was toying with the idea of starting a business to sell soaps on the side, and I happened to be reading a Cleopatra biography by Stacy Schiff (if you're interested, I can't recommend this book enough!) and it all just sort of clicked. I could picture scenes from Cleopatra's life so clearly thanks to Stacy Schiff's excellent writing, so I started wondering what it would have smelled like. Thus, Cleopatra soap was born!
Around the summer of 2020 I completely rebranded from cdi soapworks. C.D.I stands for "Cassie do it", which is apparently something I would say as a young kid whenever an adult offered to help me with something - no, I can do it by myself, thanks! I have always loved trying out new things, especially crafting, at least once. But soapmaking was always the one I came back to - it's my happy place. I went from giving soap to friends and family to selling it online, then I took a couple years off between moves and having young babies, but I couldn't stay out of the game for long.
In addition to my website, I occasionally sell one-off products via Polish Pickup. The themes are such a fun way to flex my creativity muscles, and it's an opportunity to draw inspiration from things that are a little outside my normal brand. For August's 4 elements theme, for example, I'm doing a set of 4 mini shower steamers inspired by the Calling of the Corners scene from The Craft!
I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has! I've got an Instagram and a Facebook page - both of which are fairly active. You can also email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). In addition to the fragrances listed, I am currently open to creating new scents, either as one-time orders or incorporating them into my product lineup. I'm also available for larger custom orders, like wedding/baby shower favors.
A huge thank you to this subreddit for introducing me to the world of indie perfume and makeup - I've found some of my absolute favorite products thanks to you all 💜
