"Isn't this your first Halloween?"

It sure was. Coming in as an exchange student towards the end of college was fun. So many things not available in my side of the globe - the culture, the food, the festivities, fun. Halloween has been hyped up by my host family ever since they have had me over.

I have seen the halloween albums at least 10 times since I have been here. The host family has a tradition. They dress up and turn the house into a ghost house. And from what I see, they put serious money and production into it. This time around, they were going with a typical haunted mansion theme with a realistic touch. Something from modern horror movies. They offered to buy me an outfit too. I was going in as one of the paranormal journalists. Pretty lame but, I loved how it meant fun for them, so I was into it.

The college hosted a Halloween Party and I was there since evening. Having fun, drinking, dancing away the night. I was back to sense by the time I was leaving tho... I was sure.

"Ooh... They sure have made this realistic", I said when I got to the doorstep of my host house. The door opened on it's own.

"Animatronics. Nice touch"

I saw a note on the table. It read - "Food's in the fridge, have some if you're hungry. We had to take grandma to the hospital"

At first I thought it was their plan to get me for good. I checked all rooms to make sure. They were telling the truth. I called them and informed I'm home.

I fell asleep as soon as I hit the bed. In true Halloween fashion, I woke up thirsty 2-3 hours later. I checked the bottle in my room - needed refill.

On my climb up, I felt chilly. I got back to my room. That's when I heard it-
