To preface, I was born and raised in India, Mumbai specifically. When the first season came out, my mum reached out to her network to potentially hire Sima Aunty for me. Yes, she runs in those circles, and no it didnāt happen because I was already with someone.
Anywho, Iāve cringe watched IM and cannot tell you how much more I enjoy Jewish Matchmaking.
For one, I love learning about Judaism and the shots of Israel are amazing (Iāve been wanting to visit forever but $$). I also enjoy that they take the time to dig deep into compatibility based on how lifestyle and religion and thereās absolutely no bias/judgement. Thereās a sense of pride in the culture that I love to see.
Second, Aleeza. If matchmakers in India were even half as competent and accepting as her, we would be a much more progressive society. As a woman who grew up constantly being told to compromise, itās such a breath of fresh air to not hear the proverbial ā100% you will not get.ā I adore that she does not dismiss the preferences of her clients and actually matches them even on āshallowā preferences. A person like her doesnāt make the process seem regressiveā¦
And finally, some of the clients are so genuine. Iām only on episode 4, but Iāve enjoyed CindyāI understand her and it sounds like her break up really shook her sense of self. And Noah = Vyasar ā somebody just scoop him! Gah.
All to say, Iām enjoying this a lot more than Indian Matchmaking!
UPDATE: Finished the show, still stand by my analysis. I feel good inside, canāt wait for more seasons! I did however change my mind about Noah (Wyoming Noah), something about his past is shadyāand not wanting to have anything to do with a kid gives me major red flag vibesā¦
