For my 1st ever build, I got 16GB (2x8GB) of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600MHz CL18 RAM. Later, based on the suggestions of someone, I went ahead and settled to do a 32GB build instead (for better productivity features). So I got 2 individual units of 8GB sticks of the same brand and model and specs. I just got the additional units now and I found on the packaging that while technically everything looks the same, the boxes have endorsements for intel and AMD (one on each box).
I never considered that RAM modules have better/worse compatibility to CPU brands.
Are these still compatible together? Can I still use them in the same build?
Update:-
The odd thing is that Corsair's official site lists these two items:-
- C18 Kit (This is the one I have. And it shows support for both AMD Ryzen and Intel XMP) https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/Categories/Products/Memory/VENGEANCE-LPX/p/CMK16GX4M2D3600C18
- C14 Kit (This only shows support for AMD Ryzen) - https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Memory/VENGEANCE-LPX/p/CMK16GX4M2Z3600C14
And since the pack that I have (CMK16GX4M2D3600C18) has its official page confirm that it's supported for both (even though on the pack it only shows support for Intel), I think it's safe?
Also, I'm not sure what the difference is between a ...X4M2Z... and ...X4M2D...
What do the Z and D denote? Because as you can see from the pic of the rear of the package, one of my kits says Z and the other D.
