So I was looking to get a piercing and one thing bothered me that how the equipments are cleaned at piercing studios in India. So I ask the most popular piercing studios at NCR and came to know that most of them clean their clamps (Tool used to grab the skin) with just rubbing alcohol. Only one or two studios I contacted use autoclave (Machine using pressurized steam to sterilize) on their tools. I am not talking about needle here which is one time use at all tattoo and piercing places as far as I know. Another thing even the studios that use autoclave on their tools don't use on on jewellery which is to be inserted. They just clean it with alcohol. The logic is that it has not touched any blood or bodily fluids so I dosen't need to be sterilized.
I asked these questions in reddit on r/piercing and r/piercingadvice and people there say that it is illegal to use non autoclaved tools and jewellery for fresh piercings in their area (In USA and Europe).
Now I am going totally beszark. I think the hygiene standards of western countries is way too extreme. I have seen Indian videos of women getting pierced at some damn jewellery stores which don't even use gloves and pierce skin directly with sharp jewellery and coiling the other end with pilers and I think they end up fine too. Afterall the goal is to create a permanent hole so that we can put jewellery inside.
Can anyone share their experience on this?
