So, I grew up off reserve down here in Boston. My grandparents came in 1927 to work greenhouses and the main house, asked by a wealthy couple who vacationed in the summer in Nova Scotia. The fact they both went to the Catholic school on reserve and could read and write, was so important to why they were able to better themselves. We lived with them the first years of my life and I'll tell you, no crap was allowed in that house. you worked, cleaned, maybe got a hug here and there, but it was tough ndn upbringing. The Hollywood ideas and even today about Spirituality, did not describe the Native life I know and knew. So, just setting the record straight, chopping the chickens head off and then betting on how long she'd keep running around for, was our fun.
