Ta'c léehyn. (Good day)

I am one of the moderators for this sub. As of late, we have had an increase in subscribers and we, the mod team, would like to bring this message to you. We want to go over some of our guidelines and say what we're all about. We also want to give some explanations regarding our rules. If you have any questions, post them below and we will try to answer them the best that we can.

Here is a link to our rules/guidelines.

Here is a link to our FAQ.

Our Goal

Here at /r/IndianCountry, we want to create an environment where Native American issues can be discussed freely. These discussions include a variety of things such as our cultures, languages, and activities. Our goal is to help educate, not only ourselves, but everyone on these topics. Therefore, we invite both Natives and non-Natives here and openly welcome anyone to come and learn.

We want this environment to be fair toward all. The mod team tries to be transparent in all regards. However, we advise in our rules section that we administer our guidelines at our own discretion. We do not prevent dissent nor discourage it. We want to have a multitude of opinions, for it encourages discussion and learning. The guidelines that are in place help to facilitate this and make it fair for everyone.

This subreddit is dedicated to Native American affairs and culture, obviously. We discuss openly between ourselves subjects that are of a concern to us. Our agenda, in the end, is to advocate Native American beliefs, actions, histories, cultures, values, organizations, sovereignty, spirituality, and individuals. I say this because many of the things we discuss concern colonialism and the consequences it has had on our way of life. Colonialism was, and is, perpetuated to this day and it often centers around the actions of another race. While we do not encourage racism or hate, we discuss the reality of things from an indigenous person's viewpoint. Note that we do not condone racism at all. But we will not discourage open talk about other races as log as it is done in an mainly objective and observable manner.

Our Rules

The rules page that I linked above will also give a brief description of what the guideline is and what it means. They are all pretty clear on how to be interpreted. I do want to note, however, that besides rules 2 & 5, these guidelines are mainly principles. They are fundamental ideas that we use to govern our sub. Unlike the rigidity of rules, these principles can be applied to multiple aspects and cover a large area of concerns.

Our FAQ

The FAQ that is linked above is a great source of material that explains some of the questions you might have had about Native Americans. We do not discourage people from posting questions, even ones that are answered in the FAQ. We do encourage people to check it out, though, because it is a helpful guide to learning more in addition to what the users of this sub provide for answers.

That is all we have to say for now. Thanks for stopping by and checking us out and/or subscribing. We hope to continue to bring you all the latest news, updates, concerns, and understandings that are going on in Indian Country!
