How do I invest in social businesses in India?

Post Body

I've been living in the US for a while and finally have a bit of money saved up that I'd feel comfortable investing. I would really like to invest in something that works with renewable energy, education for the poor or any other socially important cause. I'm willing to do everything from mutual funds to angel investment. How would I go about this? How do I find these businesses? Are there websites I can use to invest in the Indian market in general like sharebuilder? Are there forums where social entrepreneurs ask for money? How does one build trust across several timezones and thousands of miles?

The Wiki has a section on charities but not social businesses. I'd be happy to condense whatever information people respond with in this thread into a new section in the wiki.
