Hey everyone, I’ve been struggling with incontinence issues for a while now, and I finally understand the causes and long-term outlook after months or years of being confused and lost.
TL;DR: I have MS and an unpredictable bladder as a result, usually 1-2 small accidents a day. Are cloth diapers too thick? What cloth options are out there? If anyone else here has MS, what has your experience with your bladder been like?
I found out I’m in the early stage of multiple sclerosis, which explains my bladder having basically every issue it can. About 80% of the time I can make it with no leaks if I use the restroom on a schedule. The other 20% of the time is not fun, and could consist of any number of problems. I’ve been to a urologist for months before the MS, and she says MS must’ve been why no meds worked. She and I both feel that axonics/interstim is a shot in the dark, and my bladder isn’t sever enough for Botox, so it looks like these issues, and some kind of protection, are permanent for me.
I have significantly reduced sensation, strength, and control in the muscles in my bladder area. That means the muscles can tell me I need to go when I actually don’t, and they can give me no warning that my bladder is full. That also means that sometimes when I need to go, my bladder will just start emptying itself without my consent. It also means that my bladder muscles can’t hold anything past 30-120 minutes. After that point, my bladder lets go of itself, and sometimes I don’t even feel that it happened. Sometimes my bladder has spasms where it lets out small bursts of pee.
Since my accidents are unpredictable in frequency and severity, this makes choosing an incontinence product different. I can go for days without accidents, or there’s days where I have 3 full accidents. An average day usually has one or 2 small leaks/accidents though. I think this makes disposable products wasteful, as I’ve been throwing away unused products, and my issues aren’t severe enough for something like a megamax (unless it’s for long plane/car rides).
So I think reusable is the best route, but I don’t know much about those. Is threaded armor going to be thick? Are there any discreet cloth options? Are the incontrol training pants absorbent enough for 2 small accidents? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
