There was a soft rustle from the bushes just outside the rural cottage in which you found yourself hunkered down. Careful not to make any noise, you drop to a crawl and move to where the hastily boarded windows where located. Inch by cautious inch, you rise slowly, hoping for a peek thru one of the tiny gaps.

It had been at least 4 hours since I had set out to the local town in the beat up yet inconspicuous old car that was close to running on fumes at this stage. Normally a short enough journey to scavenge for supplies, it had taken me longer than expected as I'd encountered a small hoard of what had turned the world into its current state.

Fortunately, I had escaped unharmed but it was increasingly worrying how many undead were now spread out into rural areas. In the beginning, our isolated location coupled with ample supplies had made us relatively secure but it was now becoming evident that may not be the case.

I kill the engine as I turn into the driveway leading the few hundred metres to the cottage. Allowing the cars momentum to carry me the rest of the way while minimising sound to avoid detection. When the car reaches a complete stall, I carefully look around the tranquil area before grabbing what we need and quietly opening the door and exiting. Almost on my haunches as I stealthily make my way to the cottage door and lightly rapping on it, using a pre determined knock.

Within a few seconds, you had the door open and stood in front of me. The relief on your face palpable. We embrace in a loving hug before slamming the door behind us and bolting it shut.
