Used to have a similar situation with an ex: He tried so hard to find a solution to the problem that I wasn't enthusiastic enough about sex with him and didn't validate him enough to make him feel attractive.

However, the very obvious "Let no be a possible answer to get rid of the pressure" just wasn't an option. He needed a way to make sure that I'd be enthusiastic about sex and make him feel attractive whenever he wanted it, no exceptions. And taking actual consent into the equation would just defeat the purpose and was discarded.
