Nina's Breathe in this movie made me cry, the whole movie made me cry. Though, I don't live in NYC (I'm in the midwest) and my parents are in PR, I went through something real similar as Nina. I even have the Cuban grandma born in La Habana. I hadn't heard the musical album beforehand. I didn't know what to expect. I left feeling a weird mix of shitty and happy. Happy for the diaspora representation, shitty cause damn this life is fucking hard.
So fair warning for the diaspora, this movie might open wounds you've tried to close as well as make you miss your people, especially if you live somewhere with hardly any.
