In addition to their smaller business, the Rothschild have taken on two major loans this year. The Rothschild have made their wealth by leveraging their capital to subscribe loans, then using their unique multinational connections to sell those loans across Europe. As James Rothschild gathered reports from around the Rothschild branches around the world, he had his men make sense of the books and figure out how well they had done that year, particularly will selling the loans they subscribed.

[M]I am selling bonds from two major loans. For the rolls I need to know how much of the principal I manage to sell and at what price. All bonds should be sold between par value (value of the principal) and face value (principal expected interest).

The first was a £200,000 loan to Sweden at 3% interest. That means the loan has a par value of £200,000 and a face value of £231,854.81 once it reaches maturity in three year. Thing to consider:

· Sweden is not the largest economy, but the loan is relatively small (Meh)

· The interest is low(bad)

· The loan is secured against the Eastern Lines(very good and rare)

· The loan reaches maturity in only 5 years (very good)

The second loan is a £10,000,000 loan to the United States of America. The loan has a 5% interest rate, giving it a par value of £10 million and a face value of £15,513,282.16 once it reaches maturity in 9 years.

· The United States is a large economy, and this is a medium sized loan, the US would borrow £300 million over the course of the war(good)

· The United States is fighting a Civil War (bad)

· The loan reaches maturity in 9 years(average)

· The loan has a 5% interest rate (good for a country with as strong an economy as the United States, even considering the war)
