Early in our game Gideon wound up selling his starting gun to get CT the E-11D and some attachments, we're now on the final mission of our current campaign and Gideon has spent the entire time in between without a blaster or melee weapon since we've gotten such great use out of him ordering CT with his blow shit up weapon or Tress with her punch dagger instead, especially once he got Masterstroke.
I just find it funny that I didn't find anything in the rules saying that a Rebel character had to have a weapon equipped, so we spent the entire campaign with Gideon being completely defenseless and still kicking ass instead.
