Is major syncretism viable?

Hello all, I've been thinking about jumping back into Imperator for a bit, and I was looking through the different trees, and I was curious about the "Major Syncretism" innovation which disables conversion but boosts the happiness of pops, is it a worthwhile trade off?
My favorite faction is Egypt, so it does have RP value there for sure, but in terms of min/maxing how much of a detriment is it compared to converting pops?
