For many years IMPACT/TNA has had quite a few cable network air their television program. Spike, during their peak, Destination America, Fox Sports Network, Pop, Pursuit and today AXS TV.
There was once a time where the company garnered over a million live viewers every week for their show. Over time that has dwindled, as IMPACT has moved to different networks over the years who don’t have as broad of a reach as Spike TV did. Unfortunately this is due to poor business decisions made by previous management.
Now enter the Anthem era; when Anthem purchased the company in 2017 they rebooted the company dropping the TNA banner. Since then they have been slowly but surely rebuilding the company into something great but one thing is hold them back and that’s television Viewership.
Today IMPACT averages a little over one hundred thousand viewers weekly on AXS TV. Now these are phenomenal numbers for that network, but a lot of wrestling fans believe them being on this channel is holding them back.
One good thing about IMPACT being on AXS TV is that their parent company Anthem Sports owns the network. This gives them security to a sense that their show won’t be canceled and some fans will argue that in favor of staying on AXS.
So the question for IMPACT is should they stay on AXS TV and have that security of being on a network that anthem owns and to be able to work pretty much whatever they want on the network, or push to get a new TV deal on another network in hopes of higher viewership that will make them more money and push their growth.
Some argue that rather than finding a new network, Anthem should push AXS TV into more homes expanding its reach. While some believe it would be best to find a new network home while leaving AXS TV as a backup just in case something were to happen with their new TV Deal. This gives them something to fall back on so it decreases the risk.
IMPACT Viewership over the years:
2005: 790,000 (Fox Sports Net & Spike TV) 2006: 890,000 (Spike TV) 2007: 1,040,000 (Spike TV) 2008: 1,060,000 (Spike TV) 2009: 1,140,000 (Spike TV) 2010: 1,060,000 (Spike TV) 2011: 1,170,000 (Spike TV) 2012: 1,010,000 (Spike TV) 2013: 990,000 (Spike TV) 2014: 940,000 (Spike TV) 2015: 330,320 (Destination America) 2016: 310,800 (Pop TV) 2017: 277,250 (Pop TV) 2018: 250,150 (Pop TV) 2019: 81,625 (Pursuit) 2020: 155,000 (AXS TV) 2021: 120,850 (AXS TV) 2022: 105,470 (AXS TV) 2023: 128,333 (AXS TV)
Impact Community sound off:
What do you think IMPACT should do with its current TV deal? If they were to jump networks where should they go? Many folks have brought up the CW network and I’ve heard some say FS1. Do you think these are possible? Or should they stay put and try to build up AXS TV
I’d love a bigger network if they could, or if axis gets into more homes
