So I feel the cold coming on. The scratchy throat, the inability to swallow properly. Being of Asian descent, in this family, ginger can cure anything. So I decided to do a search of if/how ginger supposedly helps relieve/combat/aid the body in recovering from the common cold.
Most of the lay articles say yadda yadda ginger boosts immunity and relieves inflammation. And then I come across this article stating that: Ginger extract inhibits macrophage activation and T-cell co-stimulation.
Forgive me, I only have a very rudimentary understanding of immune system. And the above statement and abstract does makes sense based on the claims that ginger reduces inflammation. But from that perspective, would it hinder body's immune response to an infection? If it is hindering macrophage and t-cell activation?
I know this is only 1 article on a sparsely studied subject. Just wanting to see if I am interpreting the article correctly. Please weigh in and educate me. Thanks.
