Can I even call myself an artist?

Most of the time I don’t even like my artwork I feel it can always be better. I see people online have amazing skill and details and I can’t even get the basics right. I wish I could be an artist but maybe I just don’t have what it takes 🥺

Yes, of course you can. In my perspective, being an artist means doing something with extreme passion and truth. If you have these two elements, you are good to go. The primary goal of an artist is to deliver a message. If that’s what you think you are doing, that you are indeed one!

Don’t get too much into skills and technique if that’s not your goal. You can have the best technique in the world, if you have nothing to say it won’t matter. Focus on the message.

Of course it’s nice to study, take courses, etc. Artists might feel the need to master their techniques in order to fully deliver the message. But remember it’s about the message! Always. Don’t underestimate yourself like that! I love what you are doing, keep doing it! If you feel like studying, do that too!

Oh, and do not fall in that trap where you compare yourself to other artists. It’s a cruel thing to do to yourself. Everyone has different backgrounds and different amount of time to master their art. You are an artists with your own journey. Respect that, and ENJOY that.
