ILPT Request: How do I find a dodgy locksmith to cut a copy of a restricted key?

Post Body

Not even nefarious purposes, I just don’t want to tell my boss that I lost my key (using a spare currently) I’m guessing all the ones with an actual store are probably not my best bet but all the from home guys, well when you call them they ask what you want and when you say a key cut they ask what kind of key and then I have to say it’s a master key then they ask if it’s for a business and if it’s restricted then they say “nope I don’t wanna get sued” I think in person would be best, doubt anybody would say anything over the phone.

Home Depot & Lowe’s don’t carry Restricted blank keys. For example, let’s say your office locks have Schlage Keyway, they’ll only have unsecured blanks available at the stores. Secured blanks look similar but are a bit longer, so if you get a copy made using an unsecure blank, it won’t be long enough to reach the last pin and the cylinder will not turn.

I know this because I had to learn the hard way. My solution was to order a box of 100 Secure key blanks from the internet. Whenever I needed a new key cut, I would go to Home Depot with the blanks and only paid them for cutting the keys.
