I wanted to share my experience after today and the fears I had finding this sub.
I scheduled a delivery for this morning, June 17th, 2019 with IKEA as my car is too small to accommodate the desk I was purchasing.
I was told to expect a call yesterday, June 16th (USA Father's Day) of which I would be informed my "4-hour delivery window." I did not receive this call. It was Father's Day, and though not a national holiday, I wasn't entirely surprised not to hear from the delivery company, as unprofessional as that may have been. (I give people the benefit of the doubt more often than not.)
So this morning, with a "12-hour delivery window" of 9am-9pm, I was half expecting a call early updating me on the status of my delivery, no such call came.
This was where my concerns started to arise. I quickly did a google search about my issue and was met with few ideas where to go next. So to Reddit I explored, and found this subreddit. Fear completely overtook me as SO many people have IKEA delivery issues!
So I did another google search of the company that was expected to deliver my items, and gave them a call. They answered right away, took my tracking number, and gave me my 4-hour delivery window. I was satisfied, enough. My window was 10am-2pm. I started to assume the worst, but again, gave this company the benefit of the doubt.
At about 10:20 I got a phone call and quickly answered, sure enough it was the delivery people! Rather than the 30-minute "Heads-up" of their arrival, they had called stating they were 8 minutes away, something that I was actually happy about, though, again, technically the phone call should have been the stated 30-minutes "Heads-up."
About 8 minutes later, I had my package, no items missing, with the delivery people helping me run it up to my second floor apartment.
Sure, the business that delivered my goods could have been more professional in their communication, but I had a good experience overall, and the two men who helped me were very nice as well.
I felt after reading SO many scary and fear inducing IKEA delivery stories, I needed to share mine right away before I forgot.
Edit: I live in Los Angeles
