A film in which you see vampires and zombies in a light you've never really seen them in before, this beautiful and stylish film has an all star cast with Tom Hiddleston, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and the wonderful Mia Wasikowska.
Set somewhere in the 21st century it's a modern day tale of how bloody difficult it is to get blood without having to resort to necking people with your vampy teeth, but it's also a bit of a love story.
Adam and Eve (I know, right?) have been together for centuries but live in separate countries, reasons for which aren't apparent. Adam is a musical genius who has had his work stolen by the likes of Schubert over the years but these days plays what's probably prog/alt rock; he's a moody intellectual and likes to say 'no' a lot but is mostly overruled. Eve is the somewhat ethereal wife who is clearly deeply in love with him and hangs on his every word, but whilst seemingly stereotyped into the doting vampire wife role initially, has her own special powers and a more subtle intellect than that of the bragging Adam (which Eve encourages, perhaps she wants him to look like a dick).
Wasikowska plays Eve's troublesome sister; they haven't seen her for 87 years and with good reason.
Oh - the zombies. Well, all we really learn about them is that they're spectacularly rubbish at good electrical wiring. This is not a horror film by any means, despite what IMDB may tell you.
The problem with finding blood these days is that so much of it is contaminated. By what, we can only guess.
I'll must admit it's a tad pretentious, but it's beautifully shot, is paced very well and has an outstanding soundtrack. It doesn't concern itself with a shock a minute, merely the story of their lives gently trotting along. It's one I think I'll return to once or twice before probably leaving it another five years to revisit.
IMDB: 7.7 / I agree. The clip on there is a bit rubbish and not really representative of the film.
I'll watch it again very soon just to pay more attention to the soundtrack and the guitar/audio eyecandy.
