Prologue
Anyone who plays hunter –and some survivors– can already see what I mean. Edgar in his current state is not properly balanced, he has very minor debuffs and too strong abilities. The following nerfs are not suggested to be implemented conjointly, but rather separate ideas that I think would make his abilities more balanced.
Why I think they’re necessary
If he’s chased first he’s unequivocally effective. He immediately gets to see the hunter's face, and it doesn’t matter if he’s rescued first because if he’s chaired again the chair's progress will continue where it left off.
If he’s chased at the end he has all his paintings, and then it becomes useless to continue since he can just place the painting.
In a team with multiple painters. Well, you already know.
Excitement isn’t even that effective because the artist can make more paintings in the time it takes for excitement to recover from the cooldown.
Nerf ideas
Face memory nerf
I think he should work the following way: he can only memorise the hunter's face if the CHARACTER (not the camera) is looking at the hunter in the face.
This still allows for him to recognise his face if the hunter is camping or he’s a bystander in a chase. The progress bar doesn’t go down, and he won’t be immediately wasting time.
The more painters, the less time the hunter looks at the painting
This was already implemented with seer. The more seers in a match, the less the owl lasts. It’s a good idea to do the same for the painter, since a team full of painters can spam them and the whole map is filled with paintings.
If he’s in movement, he takes longer to paint
It makes sense. If he wants to make a painting it’s better if he’s calm. Art takes precision, and you can’t have that while you’re running away from a hunter and dodging the attacks.
This will force the painter to have his paintings ready and prevent the broken tactic of putting the painting in front of a pallet and stun again on the spot. It’s great if he has the painting ready and uses the tactic, but an average painter can make the paintings in the chase, put them in front of pallets and waste a huge amount of time for the hunter. I think this is a very good and balanced nerf.
Decrease vaulting speed
He’s a painter, he’s meant to be more focused on art than in physical activities. I absolutely understand that yes, being an artist doesn’t mean you can’t be physically agile, but this still gives a good justification for a debuff in vaulting or pallet dropping.
Conclusion
Let me know what you think about these ideas and why or why not you agree with any of these. Likewise, I thank you for your attention and patience you so kindly donated when reading this post. Have an excellent day!
