Afternoon Edit
I can see from some of the comments that I explained myself poorly. Hell, maybe I shouldn't have made this post to begin with. I'm not trying to stifle discussion or dissent. I'm not saying "get out" posts are automatic targets for mods. (See the sticky comment thread for more on that.)
What I'm after is more discussion with reasons behind the statements. Left by itself, "stay out of Idaho" just sounds closed off. I'm not demanding this; I'm asking for it. This isn't a new policy of some kind either - I didn't discuss this post with the other mods before I made it. Something else I should have done, as it's possible they would have reined in my errors in the thread before I made them.
Keep doing what you're doing, y'all. For the sake of conversation, I just encourage you to post the thoughts behind your opinions.
It seems every other post that makes even a passing reference to anything political draws at least one person in the comments telling people to move out of the state for being different or thinking something other than whatever political view is being discussed. There's just as much in the way of "don't move here" comments.
All of it needs to stop. I refuse to believe Idaho is full of nothing but unwelcoming jerks. Let's stop letting overly frequent comments in the subreddit make me a liar every time I say that.
ETA: a quote from a comment by u/floppydisks2:
"I think you need to clarify. People on social media, reddit subs are not representative of Idaho in general."
This is absolutely right. I'd just like this sub to more accurately reflect what we all know life in the day to day with our neighbors and co-workers to be. Social media always ends up going to whatever extreme a post will take it to.
The fact that leaving these particular words, as the only opinion expressed in any given comment, out of the equation means less moderation is needed is just a handy side benefit for everybody.
