Hello all,
I've been lurking here for a while now and avoided making a post until I was sure I was wanted to go through with it my plan to leave the U.S for a little bit. It has always been my goal/plan to leave the u.s one day. I stopped stopped working towards that goal for a little bit, but now with everything that's happening along with me just wanting to leave and hopefully relax a little.
Anyways, I'm a 30 year old who works for a company that makes ships for the the military as a designer for five years, with 5 years of autoCAD experience and a security clearance. I have an associates degree in electrical engineering technology/telecommunications network engineering. I am currently back in school for a bachelor's in cybersecurity mostly because I don't like the field of work I'm in since I didn't go to school to be a drafter, it was to go into IT or be an electrical engineering tech. I would also like to back on the right track. I also don't really want to work for the government but will if I have to. I do a lot of side work as a PC technician setting up small networks, computer and phone repair, hardware and software, limited data recovery. I also plan on getting my certs like net (studying for it), security , and cyas and GIAC. I would also like to get some vender specific ones depending on which ones are popular or useful to have.
I will be finishing this degree in 2024/2025, but have to give a year to the company since they're paying for it. I won't be doing this for quite awhile but it's better to plan ahead and gather some more information before I decide to leave.
I would like to live outside the U.S for a Year or maybe six months. I have about 10k in the bank right now and will be adding more to it over the next few years. I've looked a places like Indonesia and even went there for almost 3 weeks this year in July/August and even started to learn the language a year before I left. I'd like to go back sometime and have done some research on work requirements and Visa's, though it looks like I might have to do remote work and apply for a digital nomad visa when it becomes available, since they require me to be an expert in my field first. I've also looked into some other areas like Thailand and Singapore, since I know that cybersecurity and the IT field in general is becoming more and more popular in that area of the world.
I don't know where to really start but this seems like the the right place to ask. I hope I didn't ramble on too much, but I would appreciate the help and suggestions on what to look into.
