Howdy!

I have had an uneasy feeling in y gut since I was 16 that I don't fit in culturally with most areas in the US. While I respect the history and institutions like many Americans, but culturally out of place. I have visited Panama, Belize, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia, and out of those I like Colombia the most. Sadly my Spanish is not up to par, and further finding work in my field would be hit or miss at best.

Another concern I have is about the state of both US politic and politics of the national debt. Regardless of politics, we can probably agree that the US will have a hell of a time paying down the debt if they even can, outside inflation. Add in civil strife and the only other thing the US has to advantage (the US military), in my opinion, is weakening. Combine this with my gut and I am looking for some long term options that would still be easy to find work in.

I would consider Hong Kong (or on a better day China), but feel like the golden age has passed and things won't be so bright. I like Singapore, but it's debt load is a bit worrisome (even though admittedly it is mostly for positive reasons). For this reason I like Australia as it seems (maybe a bit naively on my part) like how the US was in the 90's and 2000's if for nothing else economically. My biggest concern is the cryptography ban. media concentration bill, and general bent towards more authoritarian policies, even if lighter than say the US Patriot Act. Overall Australia does seem a bit more sustainable. I would consider the UK (too much debt), mainland Europe (same issue plus civil liberties don't seem like a given anymore), Canada is going down the same path as the US, and New Zealand is just too damn hard to immigrate to. As far as Europe, I would consider the Netherlands, Finland, or Estonia perhaps , but outside the Netherlands, I am not sure how easy it would be to find a job. I just want to be able to have Western standard of living for now (as I am still in my working years and I am by no means wealthy), but I am wondering if there is anywhere stable I can work while I wait things out with what is currently going on in the US. Thanks.
