Hi everybody,

Have a slightly complicated setup, but one that I feel is doable. Just to clarify, I want Irish citizensh

I was born in England to an English mother and father.

They divorced, and my mother re-married my step-father, an Irish (main Ireland, not Northern Ireland) citizen. He subsequently formally adopted me. He has since deceased. For the purposes of this thread, we shall name him John Adam Murphy.

By Irish law, I have the right to claim citizenship by registering my adoption with the foreign births agency. Ok, that part is simple - now comes the complicated part.

Marriage Certificate - We have this - Registered under John A Murphy

Adoption Certificate - We have this - Registered under John A Murphy

Birth Certificate - We don't have it. We have his date and place of birth. However, upon researching, there is ZERO record of anyone of his name being born in that area on that date. There is a slightly different name, with a slightly different birthdate (within 1 month). The name is Adam Murphy. Now, his brothers, my uncles, all used to call him Adam, so we are convinced that he started going by his actual middle name for most of his life.

Also, from what I understand, dates of registering were...fuzzy, due to fines levied if you registered late.

Does anyone have experience with registering adoptions in this case and, ultimately, applying for a passport, where the facts don't quite match up?
