My great grandfather was from lithuania but had to leave prior to WW1 as he did not want to be drafted into the imperial Russian army. I met with a Lithuanian MP and i told him that my great grandfather left before 1918 and he said i was still eligible. I'm running into conflicting statements about the matter. I know there are people in lithuania who are weary of people gaining citizenship by descent as many just use it to live elsewhere in the EU. The thing is if I am eligible for Lithuanian citizenship i would actually live Lithuania since they are giving me citizenship. I cannot renounce my US citizenship as i get benefits that i need from the federal government. Would i be able to make a case for Lithuanian citizenship due to the afformentioned circumstances? I have been active in my local Lithuanian community as a way to say thanks.
