Allrighty, let me start this off by declaring that I don't like Itunes and if it weren't for my Ipod I wouldn't be using it in the first place (my question sums up why I don't like it as well!)
A few years ago my parents had bought me a 160GB Ipod as a gift. This was very sweet, as they know how important music is to me and this way I could carry my entire 1500 CD collection with me wherever I go.
Here's the problem though, I use Windows Media & Ipods are only compatiple with ITunes...
My entire music collection is on my laptop, in Media Player, and takes up about 40GB or so (I add new stuff all the time) So I figured I'd import it all into ITunes, dump it onto my Pod and then delete the files again (since there's no point in having all my music on my laptop twice, taking up all my storage space). I opened up ITunes, selected my music folder and clicked "Import".......running continuously, it took over 5 days to convert everything (and then it claimed it couldn't convert every song) and the itunes files took up over 60GB......That's ok, I was only gonna need them once anyway.....
I synced my music & promptly deleted the itunes files. Next time I bought a new CD, I imported it into both Media Player & Itunes and then went to add it to my pod....the damn thing synced with my playlist & deleted everything off of the Ipod and added the 1 album.
I gave up and haven't touched either since, because it was a colossal waste of my time & aggravating as hell!
I now have way more music & decided to try this again, this time importing everything directly from the cds onto an old desktop that I have. Figured I'd use this as my Itunes storage.....I input CD after CD and then started transferring & converting the music I had bought digitally onto the hard drive. It is now full (because again, for some reason Itunes takes up more space than Media Player). Granted, it's only an 80 gig hard drive & some space is used up by essentials, but the music takes up most of it. Anyways, it's full but not all my music is on there yet. I have synced the Ipod with this itunes so that I have most of it on there but now here's my question:
Can I somehow delete what I have on the computer and add songs/albums onto my ipod without loosing what's already on there? I also see there's an option to move my music onto "the cloud". will this cost me anything, can I use this as storage and just keep dumping everything on there and can I sync my pod to that or does it all have to be on my hard drive?
You can see my frustration with all this!
