Born in the early days of the year 367 to Lord and Lady Cerwyn. Alaric was the second born son of the house. His older brother Eddrick quickly became his hero. He wanted nothing more than to be just like him. Because of this he strived to be everything he thought his brother was. The best swordsman, the best tactician, the best hunter, the best… Soon though this striving to be his brother caused him to surpass him. With this came the undesired effects of how his family viewed them. Alaric’s father started treating him as his heir over his elder brother and because of this Eddrick grew jealous.

The wedge between the two only continued to grow as they aged. Alaric would try to show his brother that he only wanted his love and to support him but Eddrick, who was growing spiteful in years did not believe him. During a training spar Eddrick opened Alaric’s chest with an wild swing of his axe. The wound left a scar and Alaric would not listen to the words of his friends that claimed the accident was done on purpose. The jealousy came to full blown hatred after the brothers were married. Eddrick’s wife did not make it a secret that she would rather be married to the younger brother. He was the one who had the promise. During one drunken dinner she claimed the fact that she and Eddrick had yet to bare children was due to his own incompetence. Meanwhile Alaric and his wife were already expecting their first child only a few moons following their marriage. This was the last dinner Eddrick’s wife was seen alive. While no evidence of foul play could be discovered Lord Cerwyn ordered his son to the wall in order to lessen the anger of his vassal, whose house she came from, as well as marry Alaric’s sister to his vassal’s son.

It was due to this ill event that Alaric became the heir of Castle Cerwyn. While Alaric would never admit it to himself he couldn’t help but notice that his father seemed to be at peace if not happy that Eddrick was no longer in line.

In 395 Alaric rode south with the northern forces during The Bleeding. As his father was fighting sickness Alaric was placed in command of the Cerwyn troops. During the war he proved himself as a beyond capable leader gaining not only the respect of his men but those from other houses as well. Not all was good during the war as news came south that Alaric’s father had passed from his sickness leaving Alaric as Lord of the house. Upon his return he took his place and continued to push for the continued training of the Cerwyn forces. He wanted his house to be a military strength for the North.

In 396 Alaric wrote a letter to his brother at the wall. He was not sure if his brother was alive but he hoped that the letter would reach him and start the process of quelling the bad blood between them. After all that had happened, Alaric still loved his brother. No response ever came.

In 404 House Cerwyn attended the name day of Lord Walton Bolton in Winterfell. Alaric used this time to establish connections and alliances with the other Northern houses. When the shuffle between the houses began Alaric ordered his men to stand guard. They would not get involved in any way other than to keep the peace.

Following the change of leadership in the North Alaric continued to prepare his men. War was on the horizon and Alaric would make sure House Cerwyn would be ready.
