Debating asset management solutions
Post Body

I’ve started at a company with around 500 employees. Currently, they utilize Jira for ticketing, but have nothing in place for tracking assets. Yes, computers are tagged but there is nowhere to truly track them. I’ve got a team going through some changes, so something that I can configure somewhat quickly with a low learning curve of how to use it would be ideal.

I’ve narrowed down to a few choices, but would love to get feedback from others who’ve used these or other suggestions. My only limitations right now are that they need to not be cloud based and lower cost/free if possible.

Jira Asset Management- This seems like the easiest choice as we’re already set up for Jira (honestly the whole atlassian suite). The only thing I am hesitant on is the actual setup and use as I’ve not used this for asset tracking before. I’m assuming I can integrate it to some degree with our ticketing so everything is jointly tracked and linked but haven’t done it.

Snipe-IT - This one I do have experience with so setup and use is not a factor. It is free which agrees with the budget. I don’t have a reason to really not choose this beyond the hope that Jira asset management works seamlessly with our current ticket system.

Spiceworks - This one is really my 2nd choice for the fact of the software you can install to report back software and patch information on the machine. It does turn into a one stop shop for computer information. I’ve also only used the cloud based version of this and am not positive of a local install version of this tool.
