Technical writer position question
Post Body

Hello everyone, I am looking to hear from people who worked as technical writer for technology processes. Iā€™ve been working as an IT coordinator now for about a year and found that I enjoy doing documentation, I even developed a knowledge base for my company. Some of the questions I have are

1.) What is the career advancement in a role like this?

2.) What is your monetary compensation for your time?

3.) What is your stress level?

4.) What is an example of a big project you recently finished.

My current role as the sole IT person is becoming very stressful due to the ever growing responsibilities and poor training. Before I started there was zero documentation and I have now written hundreds of pages of documentation across all departments.

I have a computer science degree and found that I donā€™t enjoy coding all day long. I donā€™t minding doing it for a couple hours a day though. Iā€™d like to not lose that level of technicality. My current job is very boring as I mostly deal with stuff like ā€œmy screen isnā€™t workingā€, ā€œI canā€™t find a fileā€, Ect. I want to do something more advanced.

I really do enjoy creating documentation but I am not really sure what the real day to day life is like. My current thoughts are it seems like it can be low stress but I also imagine it can get a little boring. Please tell me if Iā€™m wrong.
