I’ve been in my current role for 9 months. I’m an IT analyst at a Zoo, so basically I do a little of everything. I’m learning a lot here (Active Directory, networking, Office , Exchange, general desktop support , hardware troubleshooting. Even though I’m learning a lot , this is a pretty laid back gig for the most part.
This is my first “real” IT role (I did computer repair for a couple years for a large pawn chain , but it was basically clean installs , some part replacement , pretty basic stuff for the most part. I have A , Net , and Sec .
I’m at $20 and some change right now and due for a raise in a few months.
I’ve been offered a role with a small MSP at $23 an hour. There are some drawbacks (insurance is not as good) and some perks (much closer to home) that are pretty much a wash.
My question is , is it worth making a jump after only 9 months for a few dollars more an hour , or should I stay year another year and gain some experience, take an expected 4 or 5% raise and be patient ?
I know working for an MSP would be a whole different ballgame, so it’s a big decision.
Any input would be amazing !
