I just finished a second interview with a company for a sysadmin role for a company that has ~200-300 employees spread across 11 sites. The proposed pay would be about ~$25K more than what I am earning now so that piqued my interest, but there are a number of red flags about the organization. In the first interview the manager admitted he didn't have the budget to get licensing for Solarwinds to monitor all of their managed devices. I realize Solarwinds isn't cheap and there are other options for monitoring so that wasn't a real deal breaker. The thing though that really surprised me is that they don't even have a ticketing system nor a network map. In addition, the IT manager is a developer who reluctantly took the position because the prior manager is "on leave." He doesn't really want to be involved in IT Operations as opposed to his dev work. Obviously the money would be a good improvement, but I'm inclined to decline it because this seems like this would be a stressful environment.
