How do I get a job in IT?
Post Body

Sorry my title is probably vague. I have been interested in computers since very young. I have experience with troubleshooting and repair. I can troubleshoot Windows and some other Mac and Linux. I cannot seem to find places to apply to will even bother giving me an interview.

The only experience I have is when I did the tech program at my high school as well as the 6 months I worked at my high school doing IT (was only temp). Otherwise all I have is retail experience for 6 years (and I've been the go to guy with computer questions in those jobs). I only have a high school diploma sadly so I feel that isn't helping me at all.

In terms of knowledge, I can build, troubleshooting, repair, install, etc. Mostly consumer stuff. I looked into servers and that I am trying to learn at the moment. Though have knowledge of file servers or web servers. I also have network knowledge as well.

I currently live in Kenosha, WI and I moved from the Appleton feeling that it would be a little easier to find something be closer to Chicago and Milwaukee but I seem to be at a lose.

So what should I do? Or most importantly, what am I doing wrong?
