Moving forward after High School
Post Body

Iā€™m currently in High School and set to graduate in May of 2025. So Iā€™ve got some time to figure stuff out, although iā€™m not sure what I want to do going forward with College. Iā€™d prefer to go as thankfully my parents will pay for some of it, but iā€™m not sure what I want to go for.

Right now iā€™m thinking MIS or CIS are my best options as I want to do either System or Network Administration. Although I know that a degree isnā€™t 100% required in either of these fields, but it looks to help. Over the last few summers the IT Director at my HS has hired me and my friend (who recently graduated and is at college for Computer Engineering). Itā€™s not really a technical role weā€™re doing, just ā€œtechnicalā€ manual labor such as replacing all the APā€™s, running new CAT6 and pre-terminated fiber to smaller IDFā€™s. But we love it and itā€™s something to throw on my resume that isnā€™t other regular HS kidsā€™ jobs.

Over this time, Iā€™ve been building a lab and using it to grow my skills, and Iā€™ve been thinking of working on getting either a Net or A certification over this coming summer. With plenty of downtime in the first few weeks of my job over the summer, iā€™d have plenty of time to study and take it before school starts back up again. Although iā€™m not sure if this is too soon as they expire after 3 years IIRC, and I canā€™t imagine a job I will have in college would require a certificate. But maybe that will make renewing easier, iā€™m clueless.

Thanks to any and all of you for help, Iā€™d really appreciate it!
