As an ISTJ, do you tend to back away from people who give you less than you give them?

So I have a friend who I feel like I do a lot for. I give him lifts, go out my way to socialise with him since he is lonely and new in town, give him information that benefits his side projects, etc. But when I in turn ask for small favours like buying me something whilst he is in town (I offer to transfer the money over) he’ll make an excuse.
It’s only a small thing (I know) but small things often indicate a bigger, continuing issue. Is this just me being petty or is it an ISTJ trait?
