Wow! I just finished The Reading List, a novel by Sara Nisha Adams, and I just had to share how much this book moved me! I picked it up expecting a very typical realistic fiction slice of life type book, but what I found was a novel full of heart, depth, friendship, grief, and so much more. The Reading List tells the story of two very dissimilar people: Aleisha, a seventeen year old girl with a challenging home situation, and Mukesh, a recently-widowed eighty-something year old man stuck in his routines. The two are brought together in friendship by a shared book list, filled with classics like To Kill A Mockingbird and Pride and Prejudice, as well as more modern novels like The Kite Runner and Beloved. I won’t spoil anything about the plot, but I was just so taken by the journey these two characters went on, and the author’s descriptions of the grief and emotional hardships they faced brought me to tears several times! This book reminded me of how powerful reading can be, and I hope some of you out there find your way to this book too!
This sounds very engaging, charming and moving - great description, OP. Added to my list.
