So this sub randomly popped up on my feed with this book (a month or two ago) and I’d never heard of the sub or this book. After reading the OPs description, I knew I would probably like this book. Someone else posted this book a week or two ago when I was about halfway through so I know I’m now the third person to post this book in the past two months. But oh my god what a novel.
Short description: an Argentinian horror epic that spans multiple decades from 70s to 90s about a cult that uses a connection to a god to hold power.
Longer description: I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE HOW INCREDIBLE THIS BOOK IS. So much political commentary about Argentinian history that I knew nothing about. But even more commentary on other issues (both familial and social), and the themes of heritage were just so beautifully complicated. But my favorite thing about this book is how Enriquez keeps you in the moment and in the dark to an extent that youre like “I think I know what’s going on, but I’m not 100% sure… am I a bad reader?” And then there’s always payoff. This was not a fun read, but I had so much fun reading it. Much closer to literature than summer beach novel.
If you love horror, definitely give this one a shot.
this was one of the best books I have read this year by far.
