So I found out about this book on Tik Tok and I judged a book by its cover because I thought it looked cool. It is self published, so I was happy to support an indie author. I was expecting maybe the usual vampire story. This book is not anything like you would expect.

I was so impressed by the structure of this book. There are five parts, and as the story goes on it becomes clear how every detail connects and how the parts are really one cohesive and intricate story. The imagery is chilling but beautiful at the same time, so much so that I was surprised to find that this was the authorā€™s debut novel. Itā€™s about a psychic trying to stop a cult and fighting against supernatural threats on the surface but the narrative is really deep. Themes of loss, loneliness, identity, and even motherhood run deep in this book.

The characters are complex and beyond likeable. I fell in love with them immediately. The author has a bunch of supplementary character info on his website site which was really cool too https://www.r-complexstudios.com/blog-1-1/secretfilevolume1

All in all Iā€™m amazed to have found an indie gem like this, itā€™s probably my favorite read in the last five years and I canā€™t wait for the sequel, seriously even if you donā€™t like horror or dark fantasy, get this book! Itā€™s a must read.
